Recrutement Post-doctoral position in microbial genomics

in La Reunion Island (France)

A 2-years post-doctoral position funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is available for a highly motivated and talented young researcher in microbial genomics at the Research Unit Processus Infectieux en Milieu Insulaire Tropical (UMR PIMIT, INSERM U1187, CNRS 9192, IRD 249, Reunion University), Reunion Island, France.

The project “VECTOBIOMES : vector and microbiomes” aims at exploring the interplay between mosquitoes, associated microbiota and transmitted arboviruses. The main objective is to decipher the influence of the microbiota on the vector competence of Aedes mosquitoes to Chikungunya, Dengue and Zika viruses.

Bacteriomes and viromes hosted by Aedes species will be described through 16S amplicons and NGS sequences using mosquito natural populations sampled throughout Southwestern Indian Ocean Islands (i.e. Reunion, Mayotte, Seychelles, Comoros). The candidate will manage all comparative analyses of genomic data and will collaborate with colleagues working on the interference phenomenon observed during the tripartite interaction involving mosquito, its microbiota and transmitted arboviruses. Specifically, overlaying genomic data upon experimentally measured vector competence will allow highlighting candidate genes.

He/she should hold a PhD with strong expertise in NGS, bioinformatics and comparative analysis. Skills in genome assembly and annotation will be appreciated.
